Haitong Securities Profit Rises 22% on China’s Stocks Rally

Aug. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Haitong Securities Co., China’s second-largest brokerage by market value, posted a 22 percent increase in first-half profit after the nation’s key stock index became the world’s second-best performer.
Net income rose to 2.45 billion yuan ($358 million), or 0.30 a share, from 2.01 billion yuan, or 0.24 yuan a share, a year earlier, according to an e-mailed statement sent to Bloomberg News.
The Shanghai Composite Index’s 63 percent gain in the first half and a resumption of initial public offerings revived appetite for stocks, with Chinese investors opening 7.36 million new trading accounts in the first six months, a 44 percent increase from the half-year through December, according to the nation’s stock clearing house.
The Shanghai-based securities company said on July 13 that first-half profit climbed 22 percent to 2.45 billion yuan. Earnings on a per-share basis gained 25 percent to 0.30 yuan, it said, citing unaudited results.
Haitong earned 2.9 billion yuan, or about 70 percent of its total profit, from trading stocks and mutual funds for clients during the first half, up from the 2.4 billion yuan it reported a year earlier.
The company hasn’t managed any share sales for companies this year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
The average daily trading volume on China’s stock market jumped to 20.5 billion shares in the first six months of the year, more than double the level of a year earlier, according to Bloomberg data.
Haitong shares, which have surged 73 percent in 2009, fell 9.3 percent to 14.03 yuan in Shanghai today before the results were announced.

Effective September 1, 2008 Continuing Education Will Be Required To Renew Your License
All Cosmetology licensees who renew on or after September 1, 2008 must show the completion of at least 6 hours of continuing education.
All Esthetician licensees who renew on or after September 1, 2008 must show the completion of at least 6 hours of continuing education.
All Nail Tech licensees who renew on or after September 1, 2008 must show the completion of at least 6 hours of continuing education.
Licensee must obtain a Certificate of Completion for each class completed.
These hours MUST include at least four (4) hours of Sanitation instruction.For late renewal, the continuing education courses must have been completed within the two year period immediately prior to the date of renewal.
**Licensees may not receive continuing education credit for attending the same course more than once for one renewal period. Further, licensees must retain a copy of the certificate of completion for a course for two year after the date of completion. In conducting any inspection or investigation of the licensee, the Department may examine the licensee records to determine compliance.
TDLR approved continuing education (CE) hours will be required to renew a cosmetology license that expires on or after September 1, 2006. The hours required must be completed within the term of the license being renewed. For example, if a license expires on September 15, 2006, the hours must have been completed between September 15, 2004 and September 15, 2006.

The California department of real estate (DRE) requires real estate licensees to complete 45 hours of continuing education courses every 4 years in order to renew their license. Quick action by OSHA inspector helps avert employee injuries in trench collapse
When a compliance safety and health officer (CSHO) from OSHA's Calumet City, Ill., Area Office arrived at a jobsite to conduct a trench inspection under the agency's national emphasis program, he observed an employee working in an unprotected 7-foot deep trench. Although the employee worked for a village public works department, the CSHO identified the hazards and the construction employer agreed to voluntarily remove the employee from the unsafe trench. As the employee began exiting the trench, the side wall collapsed and the water main the employee was working on erupted sending approximately 4 feet of water into the trench. Because OSHA had no jurisdiction, a referral was made to the State of Illinois Department of Labor for further investigation.
