Medical billers are important members of the medical office team. What is a Medical Office Specialist
Medical office assistants-specialists work in provider offices, individual physician practices, clinics, hospitals, virtually any care-provider setting. Regardless of what health care area office assistants may work in, they have close contact with patients, doctors, dentists, and other colleagues. They also may handle a wide range of duties. For example, they may meet arrivals at the front desk, schedule appointments, organize, update, and file charts and records, complete insurance forms, assist in the lab or pharmacy or with tests, treatments and therapies, convey lab report information to patients, renew telephone prescriptions, and assist with billing operations.

Our comprehensive program has been in place for over 40 years and has successfully helped hundreds of students start a career in medical transcription. It is the ONLY program which provides 3 month internship placements to help launch your career. All students who score above 90% on the final exam are eligible to be placed in an internship.
We emphasize that practical experience is the best teacher, and 20 hours of dictation by men, women, foreign doctors, all styles and difficulties, is just about everything you will encounter in the work place. The answer keys are used to compare your work against the actual transcripts, one report at a time. Also included is the foot pedal you need to conduct transcriptions. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, transcription job opportunities are expected to be good in the coming years.
Courses included (in required order)
• Medical Terminology I (Etymology, Grammar, Medical Words)
• Medical Terminology II (Word Dynamics, Medical equipment, Anatomy)
• Pharmacological Compendium (Comprehensive compendium of commonly used drugs. Course is a study aid for other programs, there is no exam).
• Surgical Compendium (Reference guide containing extensive listing of surgical terminology. Used as a learning aid for relevant programs. Also included are pharmacological and surgical compendiums which include 4 hours of dictation with correct pronunciation. There is no exam.)
• Medical Transcription Practicum (The course provides an introduction to inpatient and outpatient reports, 16 hours of dictation with answer keys (85% hospital, 15% clinical) and a final practicum of 20 hrs of dictation).
