Our Online Legal Transcription Training Program provides the most effective way to become a legal secretary-transcriptionist. This program is self-paced and 100% online. It includes information on the profession, how a law office works, fundamentals of law, court systems and litigation, specialty law, and finally, several hours of actual legal dictation to develop transcription mastery. Transcription requires a foot pedal, which is included with your enrollment.
The need for legal support staff increases with the litigation processes so prevalent now. Administrative law (local, state and federal government) requires massive record-keeping. Much of that information is related to recorded hearings, etc. Assistance from trained people is a welcome alternative to both attorneys. In addition, large national legal transcription companies now hire home-based transcriptionists. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, legal transcriptionist/legal assistants will be a field with “much faster than average” job growth over the next 8-10 years..
Courses included (in required order)
• Legal Transcription I (basics of the law as a profession, the history behind the practice of the law, and the composition of the court systems. Overview of different law specialties. Finally, you will practice legal transcription using a series of dictated legal documents).
• Legal Transcription II (provides a look at English grammar and rules for report filing and correct transcription techniques. Citations types are explained. Finally, transcription keys are provided for the 6+ hours worth of practice transcription).
